Sister 2 Sister Relief Fund Raises and Donates $3k in 2 Weeks
New York, NY – April 22, 2020 – The Sister 2 Sister Relief Fund, a partnership between Omega Phi Beta Foundation (OPBF) and Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (OPBSI) to provide emergency relief for members of OPBSI that are directly impacted by COVID-19 (Coronavirus), has raised $3,000 in just 2 weeks of fundraising with donations coming in from sisters and community members, corporate matches, and a match made by OPBSI’s Board of Trustees and Alumnae Association.
This fast-paced campaign was launched on April 3rd and closed on April 17th, with the goal, to quickly aid members in need which included individuals facing hardship due to the global pandemic and small businesses / entrepreneurs affected by Coronavirus. This campaign aligned with OPBSI and OPBF efforts to uplift and inform our communities. During its two-week run the Sister 2 Sister Relief Fund Committee received several applications for relief and an impressive number of donations which have allowed us to provide aid to over a third of the applicants, including undergraduate students, Beta moms, and Beta Entrepreneurs who are small business owners. The overwhelmingly positive response has prompted the Committee to extend the donation window an additional month through May 15th. All additional funds raised will be used to aid others in the applicant pool who are in need. Many of the applicants have cited job loss, displacement and homelessness, and health concerns as contributing factors to their hardship resulting from the Coronavirus. The Committee is hoping that by extending the donation window, we can rally to help even more of our fellow sisters in their time of need. Current awardees were expected to receive funds before the end of the month; however, recognizing the urgency of the situations our sisters are in, the Committee has fast tracked review and communication with the awardees to expedite receipt of the relief funds by week’s end.
All charitable donations made to OPBF are tax deductible and the funds will be used in their entirety to assist members affected by this global crisis.
